The Impact of State of Emergency Laws on the Rule of Law

How Fair are the Proceedings in Our Country?

With the state of emergency declared 8 months ago in Turkey, decrees having the force of law came into effect. Although the initial aim was solely to combat the FETÖ terrorist organization, these decrees have begun to be implemented in almost every area. While hundreds of people from different walks of life have become victims due to the decrees, the already problematic legal and judicial system has become even more intractable.   While the expulsion of hundreds of judges and prosecutors identified as members of FETÖ is beneficial for the country on one hand, on the other hand, disorder has occurred in the legal world. As our President stated, a legal process is unfolding where the tracks of the donkey are mixed with the tracks of the horse. While the innocent suffer along with the guilty, the failure to prepare indictments still causes disruptions and injustices in the legal process.
